Report on Summer Bushfires

Following the 19-20 Summer bushfire season (aka “Black Summer Bushfires”) a report published in Nature Ecology & Evolution Journal by David Bowman et.al. has cast doubt over the claims that the effect of native timber harvesting exacerbated the severity of the fires.

While media took advantage of public outrage, “scientists” blamed the native timber industry for the severity of the fires and called for a banning of the native timber industry. Meanwhile groups looking into the severity of fires in the past 25 years have found that logging activity has consistently ranked “low” in terms of fire severity.

SFFP believes in the future of our native timber industry and will continue to fight for its survival. Not only in the much needed jobs in regional areas but also the positive benefits to the environment and the “carbon storage future” many proponents want to foster.
