SFF scores huge win for Hound Hunters

In 2024, Victoria’s Wildlife (Hunting) Regulations were refreshed with some changes to Duck Deer and Quail hunting as we move into the future. In a first for Australia, hunters in Victoria will now be allowed to use handheld thermal optics on public land during normal hunting times.

This change will greatly increase the success rate of hunters in both finding and recovering game.We were also pleased to see the highly successful Fox Bounty increased to $14 a scalp, unfortunately the dog bounty has been recinded. This will be an issue that is important to us and we will fight for it’s return.

During the regulation consultation process, the Victorian Hound Hunters proposed the introduction of Blue-Tick and Black & Tan Coonhounds to the list of allowable breeds that can be used for Hound Hunting in Victoria. Unfortunately their proposal was rejected by DEECA and DJSIR.

Working alongside the VHH our member of parliament, Jeff Bourman MP engaged with the Minister for Outdoor recreation’s office and were successful in having these long standing breeds included in the regulations.

We we’re proud to make the announcement at the VHH Family Day earlier this year, you can watch the video via this link: https://youtube.com/shorts/DkaUXYOOskE
